Private services and fees

The surgery is involved in helping patient with private medical examinations (e.g. HGV or fostering) and requests for letters for insurance claims, medical reports and firearms certification. These services are not covered by the NHS. Please click below to download the list of private services that we offer and their fees.

Musculoskeletal Assessment Clinics

Chris Edwards is a musculoskeletal practitioner. He has worked in orthopaedic outpatient clinics as well as in accident and emergency where he continues to work. He is qualified in assessing most orthopaedic problems and works closely with the other clinical staff in the practice. Chris can also perform cortisone joint injections. The Doctors may suggest that you see Chris initially if they feel the problem is more clinically appropriate. Chris currently runs clinics on a Wednesday. Please contact the surgery if you would like an appointment in his clinic.

NHS Health Checks

These are intended to assess the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. These checks are available to patients aged 40 – 74 who do not have any of the aforementioned pre existing diseases. They will be offered every five years. We particularly welcome Carers to have an NHS Health Check. The screening clinics will be run by our practice nurse Sam. Please ask at reception for further details and click here to be redirected to the official NHS webpage.

Chlamydia Screening Service

Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection. Most people do not get any symptoms but leaving it untreated can have serious long term consequences. It is detected by a simple DIY test. We support Somerset PCT’s screening service by making kits available to under-25 year olds. Ask at reception for a “pink kit” (female) or “blue kit” (males)

Chiropractor – Private Clinic

The surgery no longer hosts private chiropractor clinics.

Podiatry (formerly called Chiropody)

This service is no longer provided at Quantock Vale Surgery for NHS patients. To access NHS podiatry, patients must first have a podiatry assessment through the SCCG commissioned podiatry assessment service. Please telephone 01823 344211 for an assessment. A leaflet about the service is available at reception.

Minor Surgery

Due to Dr Piotrowski’s retirement, the surgery is currently not providing minor surgery services for benign skin lesions. Please discuss any issues relating to this with your usual GP.

Family Planning

Advice is available from all the Doctors during normal Surgery Hours. We do not fit coils; for this service, please contact the Contraceptive and Sexual Health Service (SWISH) in Taunton on 0300 1245010.

Emergency Contraception

Ask for an urgent appointment and tell the receptionist it is for emergency contraception. The post-coital pill has to be given within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. The sooner you take Emergency Contraception after unprotected sexual intercourse the more effective it is.

Within first 24 hours 95%

Within 48 hours 85%

Within 72 hours 58%

If you have left it more than 72 hours, you can still have a coil (IUD) fitted up to 5 days after unprotected sexual intercourse. Contact the Somerset wide integrated sexual health service (SWISH) in Taunton on 0300 1245010. It is important to see a health professional (doctor or nurse) for family planning advice as soon as possible after taking Emergency Contraception to arrange a method of regular contraception.
